The main subject of this painting is the river. Africans especially bantu people loved living near water banks. The River valleys low lying areas of land that surround a river are good for farming. The land along the rivers is fertile. Animals can also be raised if there is enough food and water for them. The bantu learned that they could stay in one place and grow enough food to feed their community. As time went on, rivers began to serve more purposes to be used for transportation. People built canoes, and started exploring the area around them. I see birds flying looking happy, a woman coming from fetching water, two people fishing, and a guy trying to cross the river to transport his charcoal bags to the village across the river. Therefore this has made me think about how important this river is to this place! It gives them life, a chance to travel, a source of food, and probably a leisure Time during hot summer days were children and their come together for a nice swim.
